AMOUR #2

APPROBATION COMICS
WRITER: Bart A. Thompson
ARTIST: Ezequiel Pineda
LETTERS: Brant W. Fowler
24 pp., B&W, $3.50

Bart A. Thompson and his company Approbation Comics bring the romance comic back to life with the lively series, Amour.

Amour #2 features three tales of feisty young women seeking love, even when one of them isn’t the lead character in the story.  First, an expectant young mother wonders if her hubby, who has recently been staying out late, is creeping in “The Holiday Season.”  Novice writer Martin finds the kind of love-at-first-sight that only happens in fiction in “The Extras.”  Next, Casey always wants to be in control, but she learns it’s not a bad thing to let the freak out in “Control Freak.”

THE LOWDOWN:  Amour #2 picks up where the first issue left off and begins the making of a tradition for this series – short tales of sparkling romance are the order of the day.  Bart Thompson’s stories are breezy romance with sharp dialogue to bolster efficient storytelling.  Artist Ezequiel Pineda is good at depicting a wide range of body types and ethnic characteristics keeping in line with Approbation’s emphasis on diversity.

POSSIBLE AUDIENCE:  Amour might create its own new fan base – small press buffs who like indie romance comics.
