In an alternate timeline, where Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman never existed, the remaining superheroes wage a last-ditch battle against an army of supervillains.

Despite all the complexity with other realities and different worlds, this issue is remarkably straightforward. Basically, an army of superheroes must hold off an army of villains. The giant brawl between good guys and bad guys has been overdone in a lot of recent comics but this time, it actually comes off well. Maybe it is because of use of half-forgotten characters like Tomorrow Woman and Triumph. Or maybe it is the attention to detail with certain individuals, like Hawkman, getting a chance to shine. Even the little touches, like the scene of Gentleman Ghost fighting Deadman pay off.

This issue is not divided into two stories, unlike previous issues of "Trinity" so maybe that is the reason it reads more smoothly.

To their credit, both story and art work together to show the ebb and flow of the battle with one side gaining the upper hand, only to lose it mere moments later. The outcome of the struggle is never in doubt. We all know who will come to the rescue at the end but in making us care about these lesser lights, this book makes the fight scene actually mean something.
