The Flash has been defeated by Gorilla Grodd and it’s up to his allies to rescue him. Trapped within his mind while the world around him tries to confront the terror of Grodd, the Flash thinks of many scenarios he can use to defeat his opponent. But will they work or just end up in more destruction and his eventual death?

It’s when I read comics like The Flash that I remember what I don’t like about comics. I don’t really care about what happened in this issue. I haven’t read The Flash for a long time, but the new material presented within does not make a difference at all to me. Were I a casual reader new to comics, this comic book would not have influenced me positively about comics’ potential to tell great stories. It’s not that the material within is bad, badly written or illogical. It’s just that there’s nothing to make me care about the main character or his supporting cast. There is nothing that makes me cringe or care about the objectives of the villain. It’s a bunch of passing images, well-drawn of course where nothing that matters happen. This is it what it means to read The Flash in 2013.

The artwork is fine. I prefer Manapul’s contribution to Marcus To’s of course. Manapul has this unique almost pencil-like quality to his inks combined with great colour flair. To renders interesting action scenes devoid of solid backgrounds.
