Cain wanted out. Abel knew the only way out was death. So, was Abel saving Cain's life by forcing him to kill the woman at the Black Forest Project who was attempting to get him out, or was he living up to his own psychotic tendencies and programing? Is their decades old confrontation what the holding of the entire Island of Manhattan hostage is about?

Writer Justin Jordan has taken the horror of the unbridled and militarily trained psychopathy that has been on display throughout Savage Things and turned it on its head by hinting that the whole thing might be about personal feelings. Well, even Hannibal Lecter had feelings of some sort. The formative events of young Cain and Abel's life, detailed here in issue #6 also places the antagonists of Savage Things in entirely new lights and makes the reader second guess who, if anyone, is on the side of the angels.
This climactic issue continues to be beautifully drawn by Ibrahim Moustafa. Deceptively minimalist, yet packed with plenty of relevant detail, and no extraneous distractions, Moustafa strikes a perfect balance between the style of the late Steve Dillon and Michael Lark (Lazarus).
Vertigo Comics' Savage Things is racing towards it end. I for one will be sad to see it go. Maybe there will be a sequel, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Cain and Abel's final confrontation awaits.
