The mutant teen drama that is NEW MUTANTS would be a lot more potent and entertaining if the artists on the books weren't so…OK, maybe bad isn't the right word. They do need lessons in draftsmanship at the very least, especially as the two pencilers' art pales next to Chris Bachalo's beautiful cover art (especially for issue eight).

Carlo Barberi's pencils look as if they were done by an untrained version of Humberto Ramos trying to do J. Scott Campbell. There's hope for him, as he shows some talent, and I imagine that the art for this issue was done under extreme deadline pressures. Still, at 2.99 a pop…
