This story is a classic tale of mistaken identity. There are two villains to fight and the obvious threat for the reader turns out to be the least of the two, while the ridiculous one is the more deadly. I like the spin on an old classic, but this story read like something out of a 1970s Marvel Comics and makes me wonder who the audience for this series really is. I understand that the initial charm of Invincible was the young guy with all the problems that still saved the day. It was a formula borrowed from Spider-man. But at the same time the level of gore and violence makes this a book I can’t recommend to a parent. Who is the audience of this series? Whether it matters or not, this series while being quite fun, is still sitting on two stones and sends weird messages to its readers about what to expect.
Ottley is back, but the inks on his work are to fine. I like the thicker lines better. I still like the amount of details he puts in and the construction of the panel. It’s really a dynamic series when he’s around.
