The Thundercats face a Greyskull enhanced Skeletor and no matter how much they try, the fight is not going their way. Skeletor also ingested Mumm-Ra’s remains so he also has his powers to help him fight the cats. Retrieving He-Man’s sword of power is of utmost importance and there will be casualties in this fight.

The bulk of this story is a fight. Rob David and Lloyd Goldfine made it clear that the Thundercats were not powerful enough to take on Skeletor, yet kept trying. They take chances with the characters, even allowing protagonists to be seriously hurt in the fight. I did not expect this from a toy comic where no harm is ever done to the characters. But David and Goldfine did not make their comic dark and hopeless and too adult-like. It is still the same characters that we grew up on as kids except unlike in the cartoons, they can get hurt. I love it!

I’ve already written about how Freddie Williams who is an acquired taste usually is the best artist for this comic. Besides the fact that he can render these muscle-bound atrocities well, he also make them look dynamic. In the case of the Thundercats, let’s not forget that they always seem to dance when they fought. They dance in the comic too! Here’s a suggestion. If you’re a fan of Conan comics, pick this up.
