Batman is on the hunt for Psycho-Pirate and that means teaming up with Wesker (the ventriloquist responsible for Scarface) to seek him out. In this issue, they team up with Catwoman, who is on the run after being responsible for the deaths of over 200 people. She knows her days are numbered and once captured she’ll be executed, so this cat is cornered, leading to some desperate moves. Meanwhile, Bane is sulking in his underground lair, waiting for an opportunity to strike, and a punch-up between Catwoman and his goons will lead to a final showdown in which no-one will walk away unscathed. Or at least, that’s what we’re led to believe as this issue nears its cliff-hanging conclusion.

King continues to craft a compelling arc and although this issue isn’t particularly stunning, it moves the plot along, serving as an essential bridge to the promised action to come. There is some moving dialogue, especially between the Bat and the Cat in a touching flashback, and some fun exchanges between a few minor, eccentric villains. Mikel Janin and Hugo Petrus do some gorgeous work here, sharing the inking duties, with Janin on pencils. Lots of well composed, fun panel spreads, including an M.C. Escher-like double-page splash in which Catwoman and Wesker are crawling around on a series of sewer pipes as they have an enlightening chat. This book delivers and will leave Bat-fans satisfied. Lots to enjoy.
