The Amazons are invading the United States and no one seems to be fighting back. Instead, there is a great drama about Wonder Woman's divided loyalties, the Amazon generals' doubts about the leadership of Queen Hippolyta and the US President's inability to deal with the crisis. For a story about war, there is amazingly little action in this issue, unless you want to count a brief scene where Batman uses knockout darts on a group of Amazons. More surprising is that in all the confusion over a major invasion, the president's only clear action is to round up all the women who may have links to the Amazons. Obviously, this is suppose to be an analogy for the terror suspects being rounded up in Guantanamo but it just comes off as ham-fisted and illogical. This whole Amazon Attack is suppose to be taking place all over America but there is little sign of tension or desperation or even widespread combat. We get to see the JSA fighting some giant worms in the background of a few panels and that is it. The art does not help the story much. Yes, it has a regal look to it, like ancient Greek statuary but it also seems as stiff as statuary too. One out of five stars.
