JSA # 87
DC COMICS
WRITER: Paul Levitz
ARTISTS: Rags Morales, Jerry Ordway, Luke Ross
COVER: George Perez
This comic ends with a whimper rather than a bang. The Justice Society go after the Gentleman Ghost in England only to have the Ghost strike at them in their own headquarters. There are all sorts of revelations regarding noble blood and virginity (?) and how it affects the Ghost but all in all, it looks like one giant rumble, hardly worthy of the final issue of this series. The Ghost, despite his rather interesting backstory, doesn't look like much of a threat. His ghostly armies never look very menacing to a JSA team that has battled gods. The dialogue gets rather stiff at certain points with Ma Hunkle, at one point, calling Mr. Terrific an "overeducated moron." The art at least, helps tell the story very well and keeps the JSA members looking very good but it can't make up for a rather rushed ending to an overburdened plot.
