It is one year later. Well, reading this comic book actually felt like an entire year was passing. DC actually tries to make Ollie's election as mayor a big surprise twist at the end of this issue. Unfortunately, all the advance publicity-- including the cover, openly announce that Ollie is now the mayor. So much for the surprise. The real surprise is how repetitive this story is. Basically it is a rehash of the old "No Man's Land" storyline that ran in the BATMAN titles. But the pacing in this issue is so dull it is hard to care for any of these fictional characters in Star City. They bring in Deathstroke but even this looks more like an act of desperation to excite the readers than an actual attempt to tell a good story. The whole "Mayor Ollie" storyline may have given Winick a soapbox to ponitificate about his political views but so far, he has shown himself to be so didactic and narrow-minded in regard to public policy that we are likely to spend the next few years being hit over the head with shallow screeds about sticking it to the 'man.' The new art team is suppose to revitalize this comic but it all looks stiff and blocky so far. This is not the new direction I wanted to go.
