Dropped Frames

Dropped Frames is the first film of independent film of plane pilot turned director Anthony Sommo. It's the story of an independent film crew and its editor, Ryan Everly who falls in love with a local strip dancer. Unfortunately for Ryan, his current girlfriend is also the film's producer and daughter of the studio's largest backer. Can the film be finished on time without Ryan's affair interfering?

The sexy premise of a striper and the coincidental events that lead the striper to go against established rules and date a customer are fun at first. The smart lines between characters and the film's appealing quick pacing freeze as the director spends half the movie trying to resolve plot elements. For a film about movie editing, this is a bad example of how to edit.

Sommo attempts to tell much of the story by cutting in quick scenes, leading the viewer to guess the action. However, he relies of that technique so much, that he might as well show a couple of pictures. He also uses editing tricks to imply the subconscious part of the characters' lives. Except often, as with Ryan's impotency, Sommo never resolves the plot around suggested images.
