In a proverbial ancient time, five stones, called Archons, decided who wielded power in the land of Chantra.  Now, Arin of Elejance seeks out the great Father Kenneth in hopes that he can protect her people from Ernan of Membredon, who seeks control of all of Chantra.  Instead, she finds Zian, the son of the murdered hero, Nathan Manas.  Meanwhile, Ernan is on a relentless campaign to gain the power that would allow him to wield Manas' great Archon-powered sword, Brumhart.

Archlord is the manhwa (Korean comics) adaptation of the video game of the same title.  Volume 1 is mainly setup for the fireworks to come, but there's plenty of violent and somewhat gory fight sequences here for the action junkie.  The writing comes across as typical (stereotypical?) high fantasy with the awkward names and weighty back-stories.  Manga-ka Jin-Hwan Park, however, has solid drawing chops, and he is a wiz at cartooning human and animal anatomy.  For those interested, this has a vibe similar to TOKYOPOP's adaptation of Warcraft.
