Action Comics # 838
DC COMICS
WRITER: Kurt Busiek, Geoff Johns
ARTIST: Pete Woods
COVER: Terry Dodson, Rachel Dodson

Superman has lost his powers and now, powerless Clark Kent finds himself at the mercy of old foes Neutron and Radion. Meanwhile Lex Luthor is assembling the biggest stash of Krypton in history, all for some nefarious purpose. It is a nice, straightforward adventure story that lets us see Clark actually getting by without his powers-- at least for a short while anyway. The art takes some getting used to as it is quite different past SUPERMAN stories. At times, it can look sketchy or over-detailed but it makes the story easy to follow and helps build up a sense of excitement as the baddies chase Clark through the city. Metropolis actually looks quite good in this issue-- shiney but not too futuristic, crowded but not a dystopian nightmare. Of course, we haven't actually seen Superman throughout the story so far. Hopefully, this will all build up to a triumphant return for the man of steel.
