Ares the god of war attacks Wonder Woman and her friends. He wants to learn from Steve Trevor, the only man who has ever been to Themyscira, the location of the home of the Amazons. But Wonder Woman stands in his way but must also defuse bombs across the world that threaten to make every human on Earth war-like. How can she stop Ares and disable the bombs at once?

This issue was one of the best Wonder Woman issue that I have read so far. Ares and Wonder Woman’s reaction to his presence was surprising. Although he is a villain, he is still a god that she has to respect and in a way, worship. She cannot struck him so the fight is unequal. Stories where heroines have to fight against threats much more powerful and dangerous then they can handle are always the best.

Greg Rucka has definitely changed the history of Wonder Woman now, even though he incorporated much of her past. If you enjoyed the New 52 version of Wonder Woman who was also incredible, say goodbye to that incarnation as the Wonder Woman is the child of Zeus and not made of clay version is definitely gone this time.

Nicola Scott is incredible. I like her version of Ares which is based on the best one ever rendered and of course, designed by George Pérez. I will say that she indulged in cheesecake by showing Steve Trevor flying in Wonder Woman’s arms around the world without his shirt to diffuse the bombs. It felt silly that along the way he didn’t pick up a new shirt or something. It’s kind of cold when one flies at such altitudes.

If you still haven’t picked up this series, please do. It’s one of the best of DC Rebirth.
