Mutant girl Pixie, is ambushed with a friend after leaving a bar by masked troublemakers with Hellfire goon masks. After beating her and companion, smashing her wings and leaving them in an alley, Pixie returns to the X-Men’s headquarter for help. The X-Men who thought they had found a safe place for mutants in San Francisco, decide to investigate this new evil targeting mutants. Will they stop the goons in time before their next attack?
This issue was good and a sleeper that reinforced the relationships of several X-Men characters, without sacrificing the action. However, I found that reading the narration captions was not necessary as they only slowed down the visual narrative that was very easy to follow. It might be a sign that the writer is wasting time, when the reader deems much of the text the former is working on useless. The story was predictable but not in an annoying way. It’s a good premise for the next storyline.
Land is a fun artist to work with, from the look of his work that makes half of the text and captions from the writer useless. It’s a pity that Land wasn’t given the opportunity to be the eyes of the readers for this story. It’s compelling artwork and strong storytelling.
Rating: 8/10
