The Avengers trick the Fantastic Four and attempt to steal back Hank Pym’s old technology from Reed Richards. But there is dissension in the ranks and the Fantastic Four may have the upper hand in this fight. Will the Avengers prove more cunning than the world’s greatest super family?

Readers have many Avengers’ series to chose from these days but the one I like the most is this one. The team is made up of second tiered has beens, but they try harder. The mix of character is interesting but also how they go about fighting the Fantastic Four and getting away with their tricks. Hank Pym in particular, is getting an upgrade in this series. This one is his, and his proving that he is not just an idiot who speaks with ants. He can take on Mr. Fantastic himself in the brain department when he needs to. It’s too bad that Slott did not make a link with the distance Pym was trying to make up physically with his intellectual capacity compared to Mr. Fantastic’s. It was  a beautiful allegory that showed that he was indeed out of his depth, intellectually, but he could use guile against the ego of his opponent to even the score.

The artwork is a bit difficult to enjoy as Segovia is a Leinil Yu clone. This is not the type of artwork an highly adventurous series needs. He slows down everything with his linear work. This series should feature an illustrator who can create snappy and short burst of actions while clarifying the artwork as much as possible.
