When Spider-man and Wolverine share a story together, it’s hard to tell who the straight man is and who the comedian is. Although Wolverine doesn’t try any smart ass antics, like Spider-man, he still comes off as way too cool to a nerdy and nervous Spider-man. Spider-man still sounds clueless, which is how he can even claim to be the funny guy in this team. Wells captures the spirit of fun that a Spider-man comic book should be about perfectly. Although another team-up with Wolverine would have been over the top and gratuitous, here, the characters’ interactions were just worth it. The rest of the story really doesn’t matter. Sit down, read it and enjoy. That’s my kind of comics!
I’m not a fan of Chris Bachalo. His work is confusing and he doesn’t seem to care about storytelling. I feel like he takes shortcuts when he draws both anatomy and both when he lays down a page. It seems that omitting certain elements is where he draws his unique style. While some like these omissions, they annoy me. His Spider-man, for example, is not overly muscular. He looks like a slob with a beer gut and a few extra pounds, instead of being a slim acrobat. Why does Spider-man look like that? Well, Bachalo doesn’t like to draw waist lines. So his Spider-man looks like a couch potato without a v shaped torso. His Wolverine looks like a fat sumo wrestler without elbows joints. Elbow joints are a pain to draw for Bachalo.

Part of me wants a long and drawn out explaination about what stays and what goes with the Brand New Day stuff. How is his relationship with the Avengers effected? Where does Peter's relationship with Tony Stark stand? I usually forget all about wanting to know this stuff right after reading the latest issue of ASM. This is Spider-man as he's meant to be. Marvel had to have pretty big balls to take this chance but I think it's paying off in a big way. This is the kind of thing that sets Marvel apart from the rest and I welcome every thing they give us.
Spider-man and Wolverine make for a good team-up once and a while. They're not different enough to have the odd couple type of charm but it's nice to be reminded why these two guys are (kinda) friends.
