Stan Lee is a name synonymous with super heroes and great comic books. Unfortunately, Lightspeed is not one of Mr. Lee’s greatest achievements. We’ll get that off our chest right away. This DVD offers very little in the way of entertainment and although the plot was semi-passable, the acting was not.

Daniel Leight is the main character in the movie and the hero of our story. After an incident where Mr. Leight is caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, he finds himself in hospital. After a while spent recuperating, he begins to suddenly feel unwell, his heart rate pounding in his chest as if he had just run a marathon. Unexpectedly, Mr. Leight literally jumps up out of his bed and starts running around his hospital room at super human speed!

After testing the waters a little and pushing the boundaries, Daniel Leight begins to understand the complexities of this newfound super power and a doctor explains to him that if his power is not kept in check, it could easily kill him. This is of no consequence to our fearless hero, of course. He has a job to do; he needs to chase down the big, bad villain in the story.

The clichéd and predictable story of the ‘super hero who discovers super powers and then fights the villain’ is unashamedly exploited in this movie. There is a serious lack of any suspense or excitement because where the plot doesn’t fail, the acting finishes off the rest. B-grade acting and a very paper-thin storyline makes for a very boring movie. It’s interesting to note that Sean Connery’s son Jason plays the lead role in this. We can’t help but think that Jason must have fallen a long, long way from the apple tree to be acting in movies as bad as this one.

We really don’t have a lot more to say about Lightspeed. The acting is bad, the story, which may work very well on the pages of a comic book, just fails to deliver here and we were kind of happy for the movie to end. We don’t know what Stan Lee thinks of his latest super hero project, but we hope he takes more time deciding very carefully what to promote next time around.
