Justice Society of America #36

The Justice Society faces an old enemy team, a Nazi super villain team. The team plans the annihilation of the JSA and the victory of the villains is recounted by an older Mr. Terrific 20 years later. As Mr. Terrific tells the tale, the JSA doesn’t stand a chance against their opponent. Is all hope lost?

This issue is more entertaining than the last. Finally the Justice Society is moving into interesting territories with a touch of Days of the Future Past from the X-Men. However, as I’ve noticed, Willingham tends to introduce interesting story points and execute badly on them. It remains to be seen if this story told from the future will stick and how the heroes will change the past that is being written.

Merino does good work here and his inker is better than the one from last issue. I like the classic 1950s look of Liberty Belle. She’s really the hottest JSA character these days. I like the various villains’ depictions although it’s a bit difficult to understand who they all are as we have not been properly introduced to them.

Finally a home run issue
I nearly dropped this book when Johns departed but stayed because I am a fan of Merino's art. The first 5 issues while not bad where just about the group breaking apart and it could have been done in a couple of issues and not over 5 months. Then the quick 2 part interlude was an improvment. The this issue floored me. Great stuff and great review
