Review: Harley Quinn #19

Harley goes crazy. No, really, we haven’t seen a homicidal Harley in quite some time, but in this issue she’s ready to take the fine young cannibals that have been feasting on NYC’s homeless and feed them their own teeth. I’m not sure how the police commissioner – and by extension, the mayor’s office – will feel about that, but I’m not sure Harley gives a fat rats anatomy. Besides, it was hizzoner who invited the cannibals to feast on the Big apple in the first place.

It’s a fun story, as most Harley’s are, but I fear she is becoming more and more of a super-hero, on the side of the angels. Perhaps a lovable anti-hero would describe her best, but I enjoyed her antics more when she had less regard for others. However, people like that are often only tolerable in small doses.

MEANWHILE… in the continuing back-up feature by Paul Dini, Jimmy Palmiotti, Brett Blevins, and J. Bone, Batman has tracked Joker and Harley to their lair. It reads very much like an episode of the classic animated series, and you can’t help but hear Conroy and Hamill’s – And Arleen Sorkin’s – voices in your head as you read it.

It’s part three of the story, with a part four yet to come. Beyond that is anybody’s guess, but it does make me want to visit my local comic shop and browse for back issues of Batman Adventures.
