The Guardians of the universe have asked Hal Jordan to step back and return to Earth while they decide his fate after having transgressed their orders, one more time. So Hal decides to head back to Earth and enjoy his break at an aviators’ bar. But soon Guy Gardner and the Flash come to hang out with him. His friends’ companionship greatly annoys Hal Jordan. Will he make it out without starting a good old bar brawl?

I have not read a Green Lantern comic book in years. This one was fun and a nice slow moving story. I wonder though, why Barry Allen the Flash did not use his powers in the bar fight. The story is not exceptional and I fell that I’ve read many similar to this one over the years. I did not know that Kyle Rainer was dating Star Sapphire. I find this very dumb and the hallmark of a good soap opera. Is this a ploy to have Hal Jordan and Carole Ferris find each other again as true lovers by issue #50 in a giant block buster comic?

The artwork was enjoyable. The cover was a homage to Gil Kane’s Green Lantern and that was sweet. I didn’t know about Admira Wijaya. I like the artists’ work, especially the page composition. While this comic book was not bad, it did not create any sense of wonder or desire to pick up the next issue to see what happens in Ha Jordan’s life. I think many DC Comics are this way these days. They look better than they have in years but are empty of real stories to tell.
