The Orange Lantern makes his apparition in the war of lights. The Controllers, which were once associated with the Guardians of the galaxy, are seeking the orange power of greed for themselves. But in doing so, they break a truce the guardians had with the Orange Lantern's keeper: not to enter the infamous Vega system and let him be. And what better way is there to start a conflict than breaking a truce... Meanwhile, Hal Jordan tries to cope with the fact that he is wearing two rings. His traditional green one and now the blue ring of hope. This does not suit the Guardians but it definitely force Jordan to ask himself what he hopes for.

This issue is the first one of the ''Agent Orange'' storyline. If you have not followed what has happened yet in this much larger ''Blackest night'' story, I strongly suggest that you start by the beginning. However if it's not the case you should really enjoy this issue. Geoff Johns puts another player in place for the upcoming war and one has to wonder how grand in scope is the larger story since everything seems getting bigger and bigger with every issue. My expectation are getting higher each months and this issue just added to it. I just hope I will not be deceived by everything that's coming up but I have faith in the creative team.

With the art, Billy Tan makes an impressive debut with this story arc. Even if he uses more crosshatching than I usually like in super-hero comic books his style is still perfectly suited for the genre. It's energetic, the action is easy to understand and he uses dynamic layouts to make the pages better looking. The only low point is that the background is almost absent except in the first few pages. This is compensated by clever settings but by seeing what he did at the beginning of the comic book I would have appreciated to see more of it.

This is another great chapter of the ongoing adventure of the Green Lanterns and of the actual storyline. It is also one of the few comic book that I prefer to read in it's monthly format just for the sheer excitement of expecting the next issue and pondering what will happen next.

Rating: 8.5/10
