In the final entry in the “Victim Syndicate” story arc, a confrontation with the baddies take a dramatic turn when Stephanie Brown / Spoiler betrays her fellow Bat crew members, preventing them from taking down the folks who have been causing trouble these past several issues. It’s a stunning reversal for the stalwart member of the Bat family. Her demands are great and the stakes are greater. What will happen next?
This issue brings a hit-or-miss storyline to a strong conclusion. The pacing does not let up and the dialogue is engaging. Spoiler’s unexpected actions create a lot of anxiety for the Bat-team and this conflict will fuel much of what is to follow. A transformative script helps further complicate life in Gotham and this is always a good thing.
Unlike previous entries in the story arc, this issue contains consistent artwork throughout, all by the same team. This offers a level of cohesiveness that was sorely missing. Most likenesses are crisp and action poses are generally quite proficient. The pages flow nicely, and characters like Spoiler are especially dynamic. It’s a pleasant read.
