Just when Spider-man has escaped the clutches of registered super hero the Blue Shield, he has to fight his way against new gliding villain, the menace, while limiting the mistakes of rookie heroine Jackpot. Can Spider-man save mayoral candidate Parfrey while staying out of trouble?

The last few issues by Guggenheim have been more pleasant than the first Brand New Day stories written by Dan Slot. Too bad Guggenheim is leaving. Spider-man’s banter is fresh. Peter Parker is still struggling to fit in the modern world. I like it the economic constraints of not being able to afford the chemicals to produce web shooter fluids. I was under the impression that these were now biologicalin nature. I guess I will have to re-read a few recent back issues to figure out all the changes since Brand New Day. There is a lesson learned at the end and that will be fun to read about in future issues involving Jackpot.

Larroca’s work is cinematic and captures the acrobatic feel of Spider-man well. Although this story was staged at night, it still looked quite bright as Spider-man’s world should be. That’s excellent work on the colour palette.
