The Justice Society mounts an attack on Oolong Island to rescue Black Adam from the villains who captured him a few weeks ago. However, the Great Ten, the Chinese’ own super team refuses them entry on the island and threaten to go to war if the Justice Society attempts to go forward. While Green Lantern uses all his diplomacy skills to barter a deal, Doctor Magnus sets his Metal Men on the loose!

This issue was chaotic. Because of past victory of the mad scientists in capturing Black Adam, the banter of Chang Tzu, their leader felt almost real. For a moment, one thought that the villains would actually pull out of this without having to fight. It’s rare that in reading a super hero comic book, you really believe the villains will win. We see Alan Scott under another light with great negotiating skills. This ties in with his presence in Checkmate, somehow, but if one does not read that series, one will not understand where he gets all that intelligence from. Speaking of intelligence, one of the Great Ten seems to be betraying his allies, helping the Justice Society. But they are so many of them that I can’t name him.

***spoiler***

It’s too bad that Chang Tzu was so easily defeated. He seemed like a worthwhile villain and since he’s dead, I would say he was not used to the fullest. This adds another murder on Atom Smasher’s Rolodex.

***spoiler***

The artwork was fine, but the inking was all over the place, with so many artists.

7/10
