NEW X-MEN: ACADEMY X #3 "CHOOSING SIDES" pt. 3 (of 6)


All high schools have cliques, but what school besides the Xavier Institute also has code-names, uniforms, and combat training sessions in the Danger Room?! All-out war threatens to break out as the New Mutants take on the Hellions!


Even though the students are in teams, there is still a lot of tension between the Hellions and New Mutants. This is really played upon, but we see that not everyone shares the feelings of Julian, Josh and Santo. We see several relationships in different disarray and it looks like Julian is trying to form a new one himself. An old student also returns, but you get the feeling that trouble is ahead. The one thing that’s weird bout this issue is the way Sofia acts. She’s rather brash, which is a complete u-turn, but with no explanation or cause for it.



This issue Staz Johnson steps in for Randy Green. He has a pretty good grasp for the characters. He gives Julian a cocky air and Santo definitely looks ominous. All the characters look soundly tonk though, which is a shame. Cause, come on, not everyone looks like a body builder. The main thing that kind of distracts you is the stiffness of the characters. Everything looks nice, but it seems like it’s frozen in time rather than a flowing situation.
