Villains United: Infinite Crisis Special # 1
DC COMICS
WRITER: Gail Simone
ARTIST: Dale Eaglesham, Art Thibert
COVER: Karl Kerschl

The Society of Supervillains engineers a mass breakout of supervillains and convicts from all over the world and with all the big name heroes gone, Oracle must round up some second stringers to hold the line. This issue is fun and is even genuinely inspiring in certain scenes. Fanboys will love seeing forgotten characters like El Diablo and Skyrocket again. But watching ordinary humans doing their best against superhumans like Killer Croc is even more moving. The huge cast almost ensures there will be some continuity slip-ups but this does not really hurt the story as a whole. There could have been more explanation on what the villains' masterplan is, but perhaps that is all part of the big INFINITE CRISIS storyline. Eaglesham's art starts off looking very good but near the end, it starts getting sloppy with the details looking blurred. The full-page scene of villains and heroes clashing at the entrance of Metropolis should be mind-blowing but instead, it is disappointing.
