Tropic Thunder

To see more footage from Rain of Madness and learn the truth behind Tropic Thunder, Tune-In to the E! True Hollywood Story this Friday 8/8 at 10:30pm ET/PT on E!  Press Release Below.

“TROPIC THUNDER: THE E! TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY” PREMIERES FRIDAY, AUGUST 8 AT 10:30PM ET/PT ON E!
Special Half-Hour Mock-umentary Uncovers the “True” Stories Behind the Hilarious Characters of DreamWorks Pictures’ New Action Comedy “Tropic Thunder”

Los Angeles, CA, August 7, 2008 – Deep in the jungles of Vietnam, three of Hollywood’s biggest power players, Tugg Speedman (Ben Stiller), Jeff Portnoy (Jack Black) and Kirk Lazarus (Robert Downey, Jr.), came together for the first time ever to create the film adaptation of the legendary war tale “Tropic Thunder.”  Director Damien Cockburn (Steve Coogan) also chose budding young actors Kevin Sandusky (Jay Baruchel) and Alpa Chino (Brandon T. Jackson) to round out the star-studded cast.  But then, the bottom fell out and the cast disappeared in the jungles of Southeast Asia without a trace, leaving the world to wonder if the film footage would represent the last anyone would ever see of these brave artists.

Using the only footage recovered from location, E! brings viewers the stories of triumph, passion and heartbreak as the network reveals the real men behind Tugg Speedman, Jeff Portnoy and Kirk Lazarus' famous faces.  The special episode features in-depth interviews with the missing Hollywood hard-hitters before they vanished, along with commentary from colleagues and journalists, including E! News’ Giuliana Rancic and E!’s resident film critic Ben Lyons.  Will the men of “Tropic Thunder” ever be found?  What were their final words before the disappearance?  It’s the most shocking “E! True Hollywood Story“ yet.  “Tropic Thunder: The E! True Hollywood Story” premieres Friday, August 8 at 10:30pm ET/PT on E!  The movie opens nationally Wednesday, August 13, 2008.

In this episode:
Tugg Speedman, on getting into character – “I’ll just go into a deep meditative state where I basically summon up whichever character’s soul it is that I’m playing, and that’s a very private time.  That’s, I’m usually naked.”

Kirk Lazarus, on his craft – “If I’m with my wife, I am my wife.  As I’m sitting here with you, I am you.  I could get in your car, and I could drive back to your house and know where everything was because that’s what we do, which is what makes me almost exactly like a spy, if you will.  I am a spy.  Save for the fact that I’m more important.”

Alpa Chino, on the creation of his energy drink “Booty Sweat” - “When I was 13, my parents gave me a little chemistry set, and I must’ve played with that for like about a month straight.  I was in the lab like a mad scientist, you know what I’m saying?  Just mixing stuff, you know.  I said, ‘I might as well just taste this shit.’  Pow!  Booty Sweat was born.  It was like a miracle, like a baby child just came out.  Booty Sweat, baby child.”

Stuart Cornfeld, Hollywood producer, on Jeff Portnoy– “Jeff has always been that classic kind of class clown, refusing to wear pants, ignoring his studies, but always there for a laugh.”

Kevin Sandusky, on working with Speedman, Lazarus and Portnoy - “The chance to work with guys like this, I mean, it’s basically like going to the greatest performing arts academy in history, only they’re in the ass end of the jungle.”

DreamWorks Pictures’ highly anticipated “Tropic Thunder” opens in theaters August 13. Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. star in this action comedy about a group of self-absorbed actors who set out to shoot the most expensive war film ever made.  After mounting costs force the studio to cancel the movie, the frustrated director refuses to stop shooting, leading his cast into the jungles of Southeast Asia, where they encounter real bad guys.  Stiller stars as Action Superstar Tugg Speedman, Black as Comedian Jeff Portnoy and Downey as Award-Winning Thespian Kirk Lazarus.  Brandon T. Jackson plays Hip-Hop Superstar Alpa Chino and Jay Baruchel is up-and-comer Kevin Sandusky.

“E! True Hollywood Story,” E!’s signature iconic docudrama series, delivers real-life accounts in the lives of the famous.  Each episode includes in-depth interviews and rare celebrity footage giving viewers an exclusive look at their favorite Hollywood superstars.  For more than a decade, THS has followed the lives of Hollywood’s hottest stars and, in 2009, THS will reach its 500th episode.
