The Evil Inside #5 cover image

In the tradition of EC’s famous horror comics, Approbation Comics’ horror/suspense anthology, The Evil Inside, offers tales that are chilling, creepy, and sometimes, surprisingly subversive.

The Evil Inside #5 presents three more tales of terror written by series creator Bart A. Thompson.  “Who are the hunted?” is the question when two mouthy jerks spend “One Night at Pheromones” (art by Kevin Richardson).  A lonely traveler takes shelter from the rain in a dark cave where he meets a crazy man, and they both learn to be careful what you wish for in “The Jade Horse” (art by Ignacio Krichman).  Roommates learn that copying those TV prank shows can be hell on a friendship in “Zombie Attack” (art by Steven Yarbrough).

THE LOWDOWN:  The stories featured in the fifth issue of The Evil Inside are stronger than the ones in fourth issue.  It’s not uncommon for even quality anthology series to be hit or miss in terms of the stories, and, thankfully, The Evil Inside’s frighteners are more hit than miss.  For years now, comic book commentators have speculated that readers who go to comic book shops don’t want anthology comics.  That’s a shame, but this delightful title is also available outside comic shops, allowing the resourceful fan to find entertaining cautionary tales and assorted scares.

POSSIBLE AUDIENCE:  Horror fans will want The Evil Inside.
