The Evil Inside #2

The Evil Inside is a new horror comics anthology from Approbation Comics.  Written by CEO/Editor-in-Chief Bart A. Thompson, each issue of the series thus far has featured a trio of tales in which normal people walk into situations that involve either supernatural or human evil.

In “Identity” (drawn by Chris Kohler), a man wakes up in an alley and finds himself beaten up and with little memory of who or where he is, except for the knowledge that another man is out to get him.  After discovering a terrified young woman cowering not far from him, the mysterious protagonist looks for shelter and prepares for the final showdown and the shocking discovery of his own identity.

“A Slight Period of Adjustment” (Michelle Buscalferri) stars a father who has his eyes on the wrong little devil.  A violent street thug returns to the scene of the crime and has people wondering, “Was He Asking for It?” (Alex Massacci).

THE LOWDOWN:  As a variation on a theme, The Evil Inside #2 takes a sharp look at the evil inside people and how their rash actions cause them more trouble.  All three stories, even “A Slight Period of Adjustment,” which reveals its hook early on, are clever depictions of how human evil is more insidious that supernatural evil.  The latter simply waits patiently while the former is indeed the road to Hell…

POSSIBLE AUDIENCE:  Lacking the production values of a big comic book publisher like DC Comics/Vertigo or even alternative comics companies Dark Horse Comics or IDW, Approbation still manages to produce an engaging horror comic book that may appeal to readers that enjoy short horror fiction.
