Rated “T” for “Teen”
Sixteen-year-old Hana Nonomura meets the man who is supposed to be her sister's husband. Why? Her 23-year-old sister, Yukari, refuses to go to an arranged marriage meeting with 26-year-old Takane Saibara, the heir to a vast business fortune. Hana and Yukari's father works for the company owned by Takane's family. Fearing that he might lose his job because of Yukari's refusal, their father convinces Hana to be Yukari's stand-in and save face for their family.
As Takane & Hana, Vol. 3 (Chapters 11 to 15) opens, Hana helps to resolve the feud between Takane and his estranged friend, Nicola Luciano. Then, it is on to serious things. Hana is doing terrible in some of her school subjects. Takane insists on helping her, even as busy as he is. Will helping Hana hurt Takane more than he realizes or will his tutoring be more of a distraction?
[This volume includes “Special Chapter 1” and “Special Chapter 2” a bonus story, “Takana & Hana & Jr.”]
THE LOWDOWN: The Takane & Hana manga is a familiar high school shojo romance scenario. It is about a regular girl forced to deal with a rich guy, although one of the star-crossed lovers is ten years older than the other.
Takane & Hana Graphic Novel Volume 3 offers more of the same. There is nothing particularly special about it, except for the arrival of a possible rival in a high school classmate of Hana's. In Vol. 2, the character, Nicola Luciano, seemed like someone who could complicate things, but this volume relegates him to someone who is not quite a background player. The next volume needs to be a pick-up from this one.
I READS YOU RECOMMENDS: Fans of teen shojo manga will want to read the Shojo Beat title, Takane & Hana.
