NEW X-MEN: ACADEMY X #2 "CHOOSING SIDES" pt. 2 (of 6)
As a new semester begins at the Xavier Institute, the X-Men of tomorrow are just getting comfortable with one another as the devastating news hits: The teachers plan on separating them into different squads! What happens when best friends are torn from one another in the name of school policy? And what do the New X-Men do about it?
This is definitely an accessible book for anyone who didn't read New Mutants. Nothing is left ambiguous, but for those that have been along for the ride since the very beginning, you'll recognise some old faces & situations. The story is good, but at some points it felt like you'd come in at the end of a conversation, cause the reactions seemed rather off for what was shown. The assembly worked out really well, with good explanations and a nice touch for the ending.
Randy Green still seems to be solidifying his style on the book. Don't think this means the art is bad, far from it, but sometimes things can look slightly off. Noriko's hair for instance. Green has definitely got the powers down to a key. He does a great job of showing Sofia's wind, Cessily's liquidity and Bobby's ice. Just like DeFilippis & Weir, the Assembly at the end has to be one of the standouts. The costumes look really good. The customised affect is a nice touch. The cover also is a really good action image, but who is the sixth member at the back?
