These rankings are compiled from the top 3 choices from 19 different voters on the Internet for comics released on February 16, 2005.
1. Green Lantern: Rebirth #4, 23 pts
"Sinestro is bad. I mean he's really, REALLY bad. I don't remember ever seeing him portrayed so frightening. It makes Hal's return even more meaningful that he has a such a worthy villain to face. Amid all of the drama and explosions, Geoff Johns manages to carve out a couple of great character moments for Kyle and (especially) Ollie. However, the brief fight scene between Parallax and the DC cavalry felt more obligatory than necessary to the plot. It also felt a little too easy for Guy and John to shake off the influence of Parallax. But those complaints are minor, as are my issues with Van Sciver's art. His pencils are tense, but they can get a bit cluttered. And sometimes his figures seem somewhat "pinched." But aside from those few criticisms, this series is exceeding the high expectations placed on it by comic fans." altamont, DC Message Boards
2. Human Target #19, 14 pts
"As the series heads into it's final arc, things start to really fall apart for Chance. His "wife" is close to leaving him, he's getting more enjoyment out of his fake lives than his real one and unbeknownst to him, Tom McFadden's back, and not only is he less stable than ever, he's grown deeply Psychotic to boot! The best on-going series hands down DC/Vertigo has put out in a long time." rouge2, DC Message Boards
(tied for 3rd) Justice League: Classified #4, 12 pts
"I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League" starts here, and the creative team is hitting on all cylinders! The great situation comedy keeps on track throughout the issue. Maguire's art is better than ever, with an amazing amount of funny facial expressions. Sue Dibny shines this issue, and the rest of the team is great as well!
(tied for 3rd), Birds of Prey #79, 12 pts
Simone's major DC projects meet this issue, with Thorn sharing the issue with the usual cast. All the subplots continue to slowly develop. Good interaction between Dinah and Batman. Simone succeeds at giving each character her own unique voice. The Savant subplot is revisited this issue, which was more than overdue.
(tied for 5th) Adventures of Superman #637, 7 pts
"Rucka is on a roll. This comic and Wonder Woman have been some of my favorites lately. Lois is concerned that the sniper that shot her may have been sent by the U.S. Government in an attempt to get Supes involved in Qurac. Ruin makes an attempt on Jimmy Olsen's life and the plot continues to thicken. I spend a lot of time these days lamenting the loss of comics with self-contained stories or short story arcs, but Rucka knows how to tell these serial stories like noone else." nuadha, DC Message Boards
(tied for 5th) Teen Titans #21, 7 pts
Decent intro for Mia. Great overall atmosphere. I still have tremendous trouble taking Dr. Light seriously, but it was a decent read. The interactions between the characters make this book consistently good.
7. Astonishing X-Men #8, 6 pts
The first time I've read X-Men in a long time, but Whedon & Cassaday are good enough to make me read anything. Not as good as previous issues, but still entertaining. The "awesome" factor is definitely there, and the dialogue is great as usual, but the plot is left a bit lacking.
(tied for 8th) Catwoman: When in Rome #4, 4 pts
"After too long of a delay, we get another great issue. The fight with Cheetah was harsh and brutal, yet it could have ended with either one as the winner if the blonde hadn't stopped it." darklaw14, DC Message Boards
(tied for 8th) Ex Machina #8, 4 pts
(tied for 10th) Manhunter #7, 3 pts
"I really like this book. The art is sharp, the L.A. setting and courtroom backdrop make it different than anything else DC is publishing, but recent appearances by Hawkman, Martian Manhunter and Superman have really grounded it in the DCU. Kate may have been vastly underprepared for the defence's cross examination, but beyond that it was a great issue. I hope this title makes it." mistermiracle, DC Message Boards
(tied for 10th) Cable & Deadpool #12, 3 pts
"I've said it before ... this book ROCKS!!! Great art, fun story, and ... well that's it. But ain't that enough??? A fun read that never fails to thrill. Especially with the slap at Hawkeye's poorly contrived "death"." ishmael1st, DC Message Boards
(tied for 10th) The Authority: Revolution #5, Imadoki! vol. 4: Rose, 3 pts
