The Pager #1
By Leroy Douresseaux
November 2, 2003 - 10:28
Mini-comics self-publisher Carson Demmans proves himself to be a very capable writer of one-page gag strips. His THE PAGER #1 is a simple, photocopied and folded 5½ x 8½ collection of 11 single-page strips. They're whimsical in nature and quite funny, and some could easily compete with professional humor strips with their level of execution and production.
Demmans and his collaborators seem quite at ease with one another, a kind of synchronicity usually reserved for long time partners. Personal favorites from this first issue include "Frankie" done with the late Floyd Choat, "General Disorder" with Johnny Gonzales, "Cat and Dog" with Dale Martin, and back cover feature "Brat" with Gabriel Morrissette.
