NIGHTWING # 93

This is the final confrontation between Nightwing and Blockbuster. But if you were expecting a knock-down, drag-out fight, you will be disappointed. There is some action and a steady build-up of suspense as Nightwing is pushed further and further to the edge by Blockbuster's threats to kill everyone Nightwing ever cared for. It is an interesting dilemma in itself but those who were expecting one of those historic comicbook showdowns may feel let down. Devin Grayson instead resolves the problem in the only way it could be resolved-- by an outside agent. Zircher and Owens give the story a gritty, desperate feel but the impact of Blockbuster's fate seemed strangely muted. Perhaps it is all for the best. The Nightwing-Blockbuster conflict would always be compared unfavourably with the Daredevil-Kingpin conflict over at Marvel and there was probably no way DC could overcome this, so it was time to move on. This tale finally ends an old plotline while leaving open opportunities for new and different stories.
