Happy Halloween everybody. Since today's a Tuesday, that means there are a lot of game releases, as per usual, so we've got quite a bit to talk about. But there's also more in store, so take a look, because there's quite a bit to talk about today.

The
beloved cat and mouse duo is back in video game form. Their new
adventure, Tom and Jerry Tales, for Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS,
became available in stores today. The game was developed by Sensory
Sweep Studios and has players take on the role of Jerry, and try to
make their way through the house to survive. Players will have to
navigate their way through mouse holes, and destroy the house, all
the while recovering cheese which Tom has stolen. Both versions of
the game have their own exclusive content. The Game Boy Advance
version has mini games which will not be available on the DS version,
and the DS version has touch-screen activated events which require
players to use quick reflexes to avoid Tom and interact with things
in the house. Both versions are available for $29.99 USD and CAD and
are rated E for Everyone.

Speed,
the auto lover and motor sports network, has partnered up with
Microsoft Game Studios to create a reality TV mini series based on
the Forza Motorsport franchise. Forza Motorsport Showdown, which is
being produced by Bud Brutsman, the ma
n
behind Speed's reality show Payback, is scheduled to begin airing in
February of 2007. The show will have four episodes an
d
be hosted by
Lee
Reherman, best known as Hawk from the hit television show, American
Gladiator. The show will challenge its contestant to various motor
sport disciplines – like drifting, auto cross and drag racing –
in a $100,000 winner-take-all format. We have no clue how successful
the show will be, but the potential for both
companies
involved, at least as far as cross platform
interest goes, is quite good.

Yes
you did read that correctly. The total number of launch games was
already near the range of thirty games, a great number indeed, but
now there are thirty-two more that have been added to the list of
games that will be available by the end of the year. Thirty of the
games are classic titles which will be available through Virtual
Console, including titles from NES, Super NES, N64, Sega Genesis and
NEC's TurboGrafx16. The list from the press release looks like this:
NES: Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Ice Hockey, Pinball, Soccer, Tennis, Urban Champion, Wario's Woods, Baseball, Solomon's Key
SNES: F-Zero, SimCity
N64: Super Mario 64
Sega Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Columns, Ecco the Dolphin, Gunstar Heroes, Space Harrier II, Toe Jam & Earl, Ristar, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
TurboGrafx16: Bonk's Adventure, Super Star Soldier, Victory Run, Bomberman '93, Dungeon Explorer
Wii owners will be able to purchase the game through Virtual Console, using Wii Points. NES games start at 500 Wii Points, TurboGrafx16 games at 600 Wii Points, Super NES and Sega Genesis games at 800 Wii Points and N64 games at 1,000 Wii Points. Wii Points will be available for purchase online and direct from retailers. The average cost of 2,000 Wii Points will be $20 USD, which works out to about $22-24 CAD.
NBA
Street Homecourt will be the newest addition to EA's Street
franchise. This will be the fourth chapter in the now multi-platinum
selling franchise and it will expand on the fast-paced 3-on-3
gameplay which has made it such a hit. The game focuses on how the
NBA Street legends came to be. The game will only be available on the
PS3 and Xbox 360, the press release citing that the brand new game
engine is only possible because of the power of the next-gen
hardware. The game will feature a new animation engine, as well as
the homecourts of people's favourite NBA stars. No official release
date has been set at the moment, so we'll let you know more as it
comes up.

2K
Sports announced what it calls a unique, new sports title that
adds more explosive excitement to baseball video games than ever
before. The name of this new sports title, The BIGS. The BIGS will
be an over-the-top baseball action game which will use “outrageous”
visuals and intuitive gameplay mechanics to create a new MLB video
game experience. Features not found in most baseball simulation games
will include power-ups and special effects, though we're not quite
sure what those will be just yet. The BIGS will be available for Xbox
360, Playstation 2 and Playstation 3, PSP and Wii, and is set to
release in the summer of 2007.
