Hometown Media Productions announces new comic book series crowdfunder!

On March 15th, Hometown Media Productions kicked off its Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign for the brand new comic books series, Time Spanners. Time Spanners was created by John Vourlis and Jaime Lombardo. John is the founder and owner of Hometown Media Productions, a graduate of USC Film School, and a published author (A Case of Insomnia, Blonde to the Bone). Jaime Lombardo is a successful graphic artist and illustrator who’s done hundreds of illustrations for role playing games ( including TSR, West End Games and others).

John and Jaime grew up together in Wickliffe, Ohio. The original story was inspired by a drawing that Jaime did (you can see the drawing in the Indiegogo video here: http://igg.me/at/timespannersfunder/x/3339010). When John saw the drawing, he was so blown away he immediately wanted to write a movie based on it. He and Jaime toiled long and hard on that screenplay, and when it was finished, they were lucky enough to have it considered by several Hollywood producers who were intrigued by the idea. Like many a movie script, though, it never got made. John and Jaime were disappointed, but realistic. Movies like this cost tens, if not, hundreds of millions of dollars to make. Undaunted, they toyed around with turning their screenplay into a novel, but that didn’t feel right.

Then one day, John was talking with his pal, the talented filmmaker and comic book artist Ted Sikora (Hero Tomorrow, Apama), about how much he loved the idea of comics, especially the purity and simplicity of the storytelling. Ted told John that nowadays it’s not hard to self-publish a comic, and then Ted said the magic words, “Why don’t you turn one of your scripts into one? You’ll have a blast doing it.” And thus Time Spanners as a comic book was born.

There was just one small problem. With Jaime busy running his own graphic design company, and John incapable of drawing anything but stick figures, the two friends needed to find an experienced comic book artist to collaborate with on the project. John then had the good fortune of meeting Brendan Kelly at a bar in Cleveland. Brendan turned out to be a multi-talented artist: an actor, musician, and author of his own cool comics (The Nature of Living Things, The Bastard Bartender vs The Fearsome Fry-Cook). Over corned beef sandwiches a few weeks and a few beers later, John pitched Brendan the idea of turning the Time Spanners script into a series of comic books, and Brendan was hooked. The rest, they hope, will be history.

Their crowd-funding goal is to raise $2500 to finish Issue #1 and get started on Issue #2.  The dream is to turn the entire script into a graphic novel one day, which will ultimately be composed of 10 or 12 issues of the comic.
