Who

Naruto is one of the most popular series ever. It is the story of budding ninja Uzumaki Naruto cursed as a kid by the spirit of the Nine-tailed Demon Fox trapped within his body. His fellow villagers from Konohagakure do not trust Naruto much. Nevertheless, Naruto seeks to become a champion ninja but his wacky sense of humour always seem to get him in trouble. Naruto is involved in classic love triangle with shinobi trainee Uchina Sasuke which he loves but hate him back. Instead Uchina Sasuke loves Naruto’s rival Hatake Kakashi. But the three of them often have to work together and overcome their personal issues toward one another. Naruto was created by Japanese cartoonist Masashi Kishimoto.

When

Naruto started in 1999 in Japan and was serialized in the English version of Shonen Jump from 2003. In 2007, Viz Media started to release three Naruto collected editions per month to catch up with the Japanese volumes.

Where

Naruto has been successfully adapted to animé with several films and animated series featured and translated into English. But Naruto has also been adapted to video games and a host of other products in both English, Japanese and other languages. In the English-speaking world, Viz Media holds the license for Naruto. In Japanm Naruto is published by Shueisha, an important publisher.

Why

Naruto matters because it is one of the most popular manga ever with younger readers. ComicBookBin writer Leroy Douresseau, trying to explain the magnitude of Naruto has compared him culturally to Harry Potter. Naruto is often the first comic book many kids read these days. Naruto is no longer just a Japanese manga. It is wholly part of North American culture and should be treated that way in the comic book world.

What

Naruto has been collected in many volumes, most of which have been reviewed at ComicBookBin.
