On the eve of the release of Superman Returns film from Warner Bros, Superman was seen flying over the city of Montreal, Canada, on Friday, June 23, just above the Gilles-Villeneuve Grand Prix racetracks. This weekend is very busy in Montreal with several large scale events happening all at once. It was only normal that Superman would show up. Several large scale parties for the provincial civic holiday, called St.Jean Baptiste Day, on June 24 kicked off on June 23rd, while the city was still coming to pace with Madonna’s quick blitz in an out the same week.

Meanwhile, during all of Friday’ formula one cars doing their free speed trials could be heard several miles away in downtown Montreal and Old Montreal. The city hosts to the Grand Prix du Canada, one of the most popular throughout the world. Being the largest tourist event in all of Canada, year in year out, the Grand Prix du Canada attracted the attention of the Superman Return film promoters who hired an aeroplane to fly a Superman Return banner all over downtown Montreal and over the racetracks. At one point as many as four aeroplanes advertising various products were seen flying all at once. But of course, Superman’s banner was the most visible and a nice gesture, allowing Montrealers to utter the classic line “Up in the sky, it’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s Superman.” Superman Returns debuts on June 28th all over North America.
