Sideways Tops Golden Globe Nominations

Jamie Foxx Earns a Record 3 Acting Noms

BEVERLY HILLS, California. Monday, December 13, 2004, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced nominations for the 2005 Golden Globe Awards.

Alexander Payne’s Sideways, the critically acclaimed film about two men looking for love in the California’s wine country as the wedding day of one of them approaches, led the nominations with seven. Martin Scorsese’s Howard Hughes biopic, The Aviator, earned six nominations.

In a Golden Globe first, actor/comedian Jamie Foxx was nominated in three categories: “Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy” for Ray; “Best Performance by an Actor in Supporting Role in a Motion Picture” for Collateral; and “Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for Redemption. Foxx earned these honors on the same day as his 37th birthday.

The winners of the 62nd annual edition of the Golden Globes will be announced January 16, 2005, 8 p.m. Eastern on NBC. The awards are usually seen as an indicator of the winners of the U.S.’s top film industry awards, the Oscars, which will be announced in February. This may be especially true this year as Oscar prognosticators see those awards as wide open.
