I admit, the story seems a lot like the television series Lost. Still it caught my attention. The biological descriptions of the alien creatures is innovative. You’ve got the entire cast set up in this tale of survival. There’s the crazy ex Navy Seal, the immature and resentful teenage girl. The stoic professor. The jealous female scientist. The wacko professor. The guy who will fall in live with the teenager. The captain’s aid, who regrets having landed on the island, and the black guy who will probably die real quick.

It’s still a good read and the slow introduction only builds the suspense. It’s not clear where this story is going yet. It could be horror, science fiction, who knows. At the very least, we know the characters will go through a great ordeal to get back to civilization. It’s a good introductory issue.

Nelson is a good subtle artist. He moves slowly but each character and view point he introduces builds up on top a previous shot. It’s a masterful way of creating a comic book and shows that the artist is a solid storyteller. Marcus looks a lot like Samuel L. Jackson, which means Nelson used models to create his characters. That’s not a problem. In fact he’ll need more work to differentiate the Professor from Matt.

7/10
