Perhaps the most ignored book that DC is producing today. This miniseries is about a mysteryman who kills criminals-- but more importantly, it is about the policemen and women who are trying to track him down and about a psychiatrist who may have a vital clue as to the identity and motives of this vigilante. The comic does everything it can to avoid looking like a superhero book. It hardly shows the character in costume and does not even give us the satisfaction of seeing the new Vigilante whack the evildoers. This definitely isn't the Punisher. It tries to be more thoughtful, more cerebral, raising moral questions about the Vigilante's actions. But it moves too slowly and the characters, despite their casual flirting and catchy small talk, aren't interesting enough. The art may have a grim realism to it but it fails to grab the reader. Even Golden's covers are confusing rather than intriguing. Maybe DC is hoping that this will be turned into a TV special. It certainly looks like a movie-of-the-week. But the only thing I can say is: Greg Sanders died for this?
