Rated “T” for “Teen”

On a savage, alternate version of Earth, the pursuit of the most delicious foods is most important.  Practically everything... and everyone is on the menu.  Ultimate Gourmet Hunter Toriko, one of the Four Kings, is on a life-long quest to create the perfect full-course meal.  With young IGO chef, Komatsu, at his side, Toriko has an Ultimate Hunter-Chef partnership, as he faces every beast in his way, putting some in his bottomless stomach.

As Toriko, Vol. 40 (entitled Those Tears!! Chapters 360 to 369) opens, the food spirit, Don Slime, engages the gourmet cell demon, Neo, in a galactic-type battle.  Meanwhile, Toriko and company share a meal that is made of parts of food god's Acacia's “Full-Course Meal.”  Plus, the coming of God is imminent, but what form will he or it take.

THE LOWDOWN:  The Toriko manga continues to challenge its readers with more craziness of the imagination.  The series also continues to dig into the return of food legends like Acacia (the gourmet god), Neo, Jiji, Ichiryu, and others.

Toriko Graphic Novel Volume 40 is up and down.  There are some epic battles, which are awesome to behold, but Toriko and company are not the main focus on this volume.  When the title character is the focus, however, Toriko becomes his old self – a wild and crazy guy with a wilder, monstrous side.  The ending of Vol. 40 suggests that still more weirdness is to come, which is a good thing.

I READS YOU RECOMMENDS:  Readers looking for the best in shonen adventure will want a big taste of the Shonen Jump manga, Toriko.
