Rated “T” for “Teen”

A first year student at Tourin Academy, 16-year-old Momoka Sendou is a top martial artist and a member of the kenpo club.  Her childhood friend, Ryuga Kou, is a Chinese magic master who specializes in banishing demons.  In order to increase his power, Ryuga summoned the spirit of a dragon to possess him, but the spirit entered Momoka instead.  Momoka becomes the invincible “Dragon Girl” and joins Ryuga to battle devious demons and other belligerent spirits.

In St. Dragon Girl, Vol. 4, Momoka and Ryuga are surprised to discover that Momoka’s dragon, called St. Dragon, has taken on the form of beautiful man with silver hair.  St. Dragon has come to warn of dangers facing the Kou family, but the dragon also has something else in mind.  He wants Momoka to become his mate, and Ryuga wonders if he can compete with St. Dragon for Momoka’s affections.  Meanwhile, old enemies of the Kou family, led by a mysterious woman named Yutengenyo, plot to resurrect an evil that is imprisoned beneath the Kou House in Yokohama.

THE LOWDOWN:  Most of the time, St. Dragon Girl (stylized as St. ♥ Dragon Girl) is about martial arts and teen love.  However, the series is also steeped in strong magic that involves spell casting, fortune telling, charms, talismans, and even epic battles against supernatural creatures.  Vol. 4 is a showcase for this kind of magic, but the battle of powerful magic doesn’t take away from the bubblegum and sparkles charm of this series.  It’s a divinely sweet and delicious dessert, I could nosh on all day.

POSSIBLE AUDIENCE:  One of the sweetest of the sweet “Shojo Beat” titles, St. Dragon Girl will entertain readers who like spunky heroines, magic, and romance.
