Star Wars Episode III

The last of the three prequels of the Star Wars saga, in this episode, the missing link explaining most of the mysteries surrounding Darth Vader and the empire he controlled with Darth Sidious is clarified. Anakin Skywalker, the young JEDI seen in previous episodes allies himself with his JEDI mentor, Master Obi-Wan Kenobi to rescue Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. But is he brave enough to overcome the biggest obstacle ever, his own ambition?

On its own this movie is fun. However, the plot is weak. Lucas stretched two fights and some political manoeuvres stretched to create a full feature length film. I have not seen the previous two films, but could predict everything that would happen with deadly accuracy. It felt like one was not watching a full movie, but a small part. The actors felt like they just wanted to get this job over and collect their pay checks.

Visually, this film shines. I appreciate the work involved to create such vast worlds. Looking at the set designs, one can see why Star Wars sets the tone for many science fiction films. It’s the film to beat. Another aspect of Star Wars that was pleasing was the sound design. Sequences such as the large mother ship flying really sent vibrations as if the ship were real. This is one area of film making that Lucas masters.
