Planetary Brigade is the companion book to Hero Squared, featuring Captain Valor. The Brigade is your common well organized and a well-funded super team with an eclectic cast protecting the Earth. An evil has begun to invade our world through a portal and some the team’s heroes face off against the new menace.

This series is set in the same tone as the classic Justice League series written in the 1980s by the writers and repeated in the follow up series I can’t Believe It’s Not the Justice league and The Defenders, from Marvel Comics. The story and the joke have the same feel. One may not be familiar with the characters, but they easily grow into the traditional archetypes, the sulky feline woman, the spooky mystic, the grim loner, the godlike champion and the fancy alien.

The art chores are split among a wide team handling specific sequences of action. As a whole, they don’t tie in neatly and some characters don’t even resemble each other in different sequences. Hints that Giffen did the layout are evident, which reinforce the visuals.
