A special single-issue reunion story starring the ORIGINAL NEW MUTANTS: Moonstar, Cannonball, Magma, Karma, Sunspot & Wolfsbane!
This was a really good story that seemed to touch on many things. There is a big threat to not just Dani, Shan and Rahne, but also the students and one certain student more than the others. The resolution is kind of fast, but the message of friendship and group strength that is projected is a nice touch. We also see the characters dealing with the aftermath of Magneto’s rampage. This adds a nice sense of consistency within the books.
Randolph adds a really vibrant, compelling atmosphere to this story. The characters seem revitalised and there is an injection of actual self into them. Roberto’s boyish roguishness is really captured and the same can be said for Shan and Rahne too. Sometimes things are out of proportion, but the overall feel is good. Especially the sinister-ness of the (familiar) villain. Good throwback cover to the original fans too.
