Rated “T” for “Teen”

An accidental encounter causes Anise Yamamoto to lose the rose choker from her neck.  Her father told her that she would suffer a terrible punishment if she would remove it, and Anise takes his dire warning seriously.  Instead of being punished, Anise gains four cards representing four Rose KnightsKaide Higa, Mitsuru Tenjo, Mitsuki Kurama, and Seiran Asagi, each of whom she can summon by kissing a rose card.

As Kiss of the Rose Princess, Vol. 3 (Chapters 11 to 14) opens, Anise is facing a crisis at every turn.  First, she must rescue Seiran (Blue Rose), after he has been kidnapped by Haruto Kisugi (Yellow Rose), an old frenemy of Anise's.  Plus, Anise must repair the seal that keeps the Demon Lord from entering the world.  Haruto's next move will shock everyone.

Anise must also make a True Contract with her four knights, but doing so comes with a contractual clause that unsettles Anise.  Plus, Anise learns about the “Arcana Cards,” and her father makes a surprise appearance, holding a surprise position.

THE LOWDOWN:  The Kiss of the Rose Princess manga continues to evolve.  With each chapter, series creator Aya Shouoto reveals something new that makes her manga stronger.  After reading Kiss of the Rose Princess Volume 3, I am sure that this shojo manga will not be a syrupy magical girl series.  I think it will remain fun and show more imagination in its execution – I hope so.

POSSIBLE AUDIENCE:  Fans of magical/mystical girls will want to try the “Shojo Beat” title, Kiss of the Rose Princess.
