Rated “T” for “Teen”

Aoi Tsubaki inherited her grandfather, Shiro's ability to see the spirits known as ayakashi (yokai).  Aoi also inherited his massive debt to the ayakashi, and now, she’s been kidnapped and taken to Kakuriyo (the spirit world) to settle that debt.  Kijin a.k.a. “the Ōdana, who is the ogre and the owner of an inn, “Tenjin-ya,” wants Aoi to marry him to settle the debt's her grandfather owes him... or she can be eaten by demons.  But Aoi is determined to settle those debts on her own terms.

As Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits, Vol. 2 (Chapters 6 to 10) opens, Aoi has been relegated to living in one of Tenjin-ya's cottages.  One evening she finds an elderly tengu past out drunk outside her door.  Taking him in, she offers him to partake of the simple homey meal she has prepared.  The old man is Lord Matsuba, and he is the first lucky break she will get in Kakuriyo.  Plus, Aoi and Kijin visit the capital city.

[This volume includes a bonus story and end notes.]

THE LOWDOWN:  As I previously wrote, I was interested in reading the Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits manga because I am a fan of yokai manga.  Luckily, my VIZ media representative has sent me copies of the first two volumes for review.

Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits Graphic Novel Volume 2 is a delight, just as the first issue was – maybe, even more so.  Vol. 2 takes the reader out into the larger world of Kakuriyo, and writer-artist Waco Ioka begins to introduce more of the series' conflicts, intrigue, and rivalries.  Aoi is a cautious character, but her curiosity will introduce us to many delights.

I READS YOU RECOMMENDS:  Fans of yokai manga will want to read the Shojo Beat series, Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits.
